Just Like a Family is born , a Blog is Born

17 April, 1983
I wanted to give Ken his own blog, away from my art blog and the outside world. Ken came home for Hospice on Fri., 5 February. They recommended hospice, because he started to lose a lot of weight. At this point, it is not evident if he is here to get better, to let go, or to 'hang on'. He still may need to go to another facility, at some point. But, for now, he is home with us. It is very tough work, but we are thankful for this time, where we can care for him.

Sometimes he is very lucid, and other times he is lost in his right or left brain/hemisphere. He told me today that he would like to forget about everything and hide in his brain. He told his childhood friend, Greg, yesterday, that every day he was getting better, ever so slowly, a little tiny bit each and every day.

So, why K-G Flake? Well, his initials being KG, makes sense, and everyone at work, I am told, calls him K-G. As for Flake, well, who has a nickname like that growing up, and doesn't mind it? I guess someone pretty comfortable in their own skin-back then. I don't think so right now. But, it was his nickname, and he wore it as a badge of honor. He approved of the blog title, so here it is-K-G Flake.

Welcome to our world.

Hi Lydia, thank you for the invitation over to this new blog for your husband. It's a good way to make updates. I am still praying for you all, and like Ken says,I will pray, "God, please let him get a little better everyday."
Hugs and love,

Hi Ken & Lydia, Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this journey and for an invitation to Ken's blog. I trust that God will continue to walk beside you as you continue on life's path. I love the wedding photo, such a beautiful young couple held together by the promise of young love and still holding fast to each other these many years later!
Love, Diva

Hello, Lydia--I am so glad you sent me this link so I can follow Ken's progress. I love your wedding photo! If I could magically transport myself to where you live, I'd give you a big hug, and do what I could to help out. I can appreciate what you and your family are going through, as we were experiencing a similar situation a few years ago with my dad. Take good care of yourself--you need to keep up YOUR strength, too! Love, Jann

Greg asked me to post this...greg writes:
I only ever remember Ardie calling him that. And I always thought to myself, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Well, Ken has never once ever flaked on me. But of course, I imagine people think I am superflake. So maybe I don't remember him flaking on me?? But I do know, Ken has always been my closest friend. Every time period of my life has Kenny in it. Since I was 3. O.K. I am a little hazy at that time period, but by the time we were 4 I can remember giant dirt bomb fights on the roof of the old warehouse down the street. Heck, I moved to D.C. because of you guys. If that was what it was going to take to improve my tennis game, well it was a no brainer. I'll write more random incoherent thoughts later.
